Yeonsu, Sorae, and Wolgot

Walk, eat, repeat!

Today Caroline joined me for a trip to Yeonsu for dinner and a café. We like to find small businesses that are operated by families. In this cute little Korean barbecue restaurant, a sweet lady brought us delicious pork, kimchi, spinach, garlic, etc. and chatted with us (well, with Caroline since she was speaking Korean.) Caroline cooked the pork to perfection. To eat it, you wrap the pork and side dishes in a leaf and eat it in one bite. I’m more successful with the smaller leaves!

After our meal, we stopped by a cafè for smoothie deserts. Before making our way to the subway, we sang in the noraebong (karaoke.) Caroline sounds like a professional singer.  But me, not so much!

When we arrived back in Soraepogu, we walked down to the waterfront. The seafood market was closed, but we saw live fish, crabs, eels, and squid. I felt like I was in Ridley’s Aquarium! We took pictures with “the crab” and the town’s mascots.

The next day it rained so we took a cab to Wolgot Port and shopped in the mall. It was decorated for Christmas and they had created a Smurf village that was full of families with adorable children.

The food court (Taste Village) was much healthier than our food courts. We got meals that came with instructions. Caroline got steak but I was feeling adventurous so I tried cockle (Ggomak). It was so delicious! First, we took our main course and moved it to a bowl. Then, we poured boiling water into the original bowl, where rice was stuck to the sides, and covered it. To eat my meal, I used chopsticks to pick up a sheet of seaweed. I dropped it in my bowl and used the chopsticks to pick up the seaweed filled with rice, cockles, and onions. At the end of the meal we ate rice from the original bowl. I felt quite accomplished by the end of the meal! We visited another café for coffee and dessert. Yummy!
